Ramsar Reports on Wetland Management Project in Turkey

The Ramsar Secretariat reports that the consultations conducted by Doğa Derneği (Birdlife Turkey) resulted in establishment of a technical commission in addition to the existing wetland management structures in the country, and the release of a guidebook describing the characteristics, ownership, land uses and management structures of all Turkish Ramsar sites.

23 October 2012: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention) has reported on the implementation of the Small Grant Fund Project titled “Effective Management of Ramsar Sites in Turkey.” The project, which was conducted by Doğa Derneği (Birdlife Turkey), consisted of stakeholder consultations to assess existing wetland management structures in the country, and led to the establishment of a technical commission.

The project also led to the release of a guidebook on Turkey’s Ramsar Sites in English and Turkish, which describes the characteristics, ownership, land uses and management structures of all Turkish Ramsar Sites. [Project Report] [Ramsar Sites of Turkey] [Ramsar Press Release]
