Ramsar and Partners Organize Training for Wetland Managers

The third Wetland Managers Training programme was part of the Ramsar Convention's aim to develop the awareness of business toward the environmental results of their actions.

The participants joined a field trip to Banskhali ECOPARK to observe the effects of management techniques on wetlands.

30 May 2011: The Ramsar Regional Center – East Asia (RRC-EA) and Bangladesh POUSH, along with YOUNGONE Corporation, hosted the third Wetland Managers Training programme, which sought to improve the relationship between the private sector and the regional initiative of the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Convention).

This was RRC-EA’s first training program for wetland managers held in the local language, Bengali. The training programme took place from 20-23 April 2011, in the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ), a free trade zone managed by the YOUNGONE Group located in Chittagong Bangladesh. It was held in accordance with resolution X.12 of the Ramsar Convention, which provides for the alignment of business and the regional initiatives in order to develop the awareness of business towards the environmental results of their actions.

The training brought together 50 participants from government agencies, national and international environmental NGOs in Bangladesh, academics and researchers. The programme consisted of a workshop and 12 seminars. On the final day, the participants joined a field trip to Banskhali ECOPARK to observe the effects of management techniques on wetlands.
