The fifth international meeting on the establishment of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization (RFMO) was held from 10-14 March 2008, in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Participants heard reports from the Data and Information Working Group and the Science Working Group. The Meeting strongly encouraged all participants to submit data to the Interim Secretariat in accordance with the data standards adopted at previous meetings, including catches from 2007, by 31 March 2008. It was noted that data submitted should include information on all fishing vessels and should distinguish support ships, carrier vessels and any other vessels directly engaged in fishing operations. Participants agreed that the Sixth International Meeting to discuss the establishment of the proposed South Pacific RFMO would be held in Canberra, Australia, from 6-10 October 2008.
