PIFS Reports Progress by Nauru After Cairns Compact Peer Review

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) reports that Nauru was the first country to volunteer to undertake a Peer Review in March 2010 and has made significant progress since then, following its recommendations.

The Forum Compact is a commitment by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders to intensify national and regional efforts to strengthen coordination and use of development resources in the Pacific.

6 November 2011: The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) has reported improvements in development effectiveness made by the Government of Nauru, under the Cairns Compact for Strengthening Development Cooperation (Forum Compact) Peer Review process. Nauru was the first country to volunteer to undertake a Peer Review, and completed its review in March 2010.

The Forum Compact is a commitment by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders to intensify national and regional efforts to strengthen coordination and use of development resources in the Pacific.

According to PIFS, 18 months after its Peer Review, Nauru has acted on the Review’s recommendations and made significant progress. An electronic Financial Management Information System (FMIS) has been installed, with support from Australia through AusAID, to facilitate accountable and transparent use of government resources and donor funds.
