SPREP launches "The Pacific Voyage" campaign.

8 October 2010: “The Pacific Voyage” will be the central theme of a campaign supported by Pacific islands attending the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), meeting in Nagoya, Japan, from 18-29 October 2010.

The campaign, launched by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), aims to highlight that the Pacific has had success in nature conservation, and that scaling up could be enhanced with even stronger support at the international level. The Pacific will be hosting several side events to showcase nature conservation successes in the region, as well as display materials and promotional products in an exhibition.

“The Pacific Voyage” covers the themes: “One Ocean,” “Many People,” and “Unique Plants and Animals.” The campaign also will include the launch of a case study titled “Ocean Voices, Lessons from the Whales for the CBD,” outlining threats to whales in the Pacific region, the status and trends of humpback whales in Oceania, and the collaborative conservation measures taken by Pacific Island Countries and territories.
