New IMO Marine Environment Division Director Appointed

Stefan Micallef has been appointed Director of the Marine Environment Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Micallef was previously responsible for secretariat duties involving the revision of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) Annex II and Annex III and the amended International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (IBC Code).

IMO3 January 2012: Stefan Micallef has been appointed Director of the Marine Environment Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), as part of a Secretariat restructuring announced by IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu. The former Director of the Marine Environment Division, Jo Espinoza-Ferrey, has been appointed Director of the Administrative Division.

Before working for the IMO, Micallef served as the Chief of the Disaster Management Branch of the UNEP Division of Environmental Policy Implementation. In 2004, he joined the IMO as Head of the Chemicals and Air Pollution Prevention Section in the Sub-Division for Pollution Prevention within the Marine Environment Division. As Head of the Chemicals and Air Pollution Prevention Section, Micallef was previously responsible for secretariat duties involving the revision of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) Annex II and Annex III and the amended International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (IBC Code).
