The role of regional integration groupings have come under the spotlight in a recent meeting held in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands.

The meeting on the “Role of Regional Integration Groupings in International Trade, Investment and Human Resources” took place from 15-19 March 2004. It was organized by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), in cooperation with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, the Las Palmas Chamber of Commerce and the Foundation of Las Palmas Ports. Delegates discussed how to maximize the benefits of capacity building and training in the areas of international trade, investment, and information and communications technology. The event was attended by representatives of regional integration organizations from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
