The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA) held during the Paris Climate Change Conference illustrated the “massive and rising response by cities, regions, business and civil society to take ambitious climate action, frequently in cooperation with national governments,” the UNFCCC Secretariat reflected in a press release on the Agenda.
The LPAA resulted in over 70 major initiatives from nearly 10,000 actors from 180 countries on agriculture, building, business, cities, forests, innovation, private finance, resilience, short-lived climate pollutants, transport and water.
9 December 2015: The Lima-Paris Action Agenda (LPAA), which convened on the sidelines of the Paris Climate Change Conference, illustrated the “massive and rising response by cities, regions, business and civil society to take ambitious climate action, frequently in cooperation with national governments,” according to the UNFCCC Secretariat. The LPAA resulted in over 70 major initiatives from nearly 10,000 actors from 180 countries on agriculture, building, business, cities, forests, innovation, private finance, resilience, short-lived climate pollutants, transport and water.
Convening on the sidelines of the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC, the LPAA was a joint undertaking of the Peruvian and French COP presidencies, the Office of the UN Secretary-General and the UNFCCC Secretariat. It sought to amplify climate action ongoing in each level, region and sector of the world.
The LPAA’s 12 Focus days, held from 1-8 December, resulted in commitments and initiatives to reduce emissions, build resilient communities and economies, tackle deforestation, improve energy efficiency, and address waste in agriculture, forestry and water.
Commitments on the Non-State Action Zone for Climate Action (NAZCA) platform include commitments from 2,250 cities and 150 regions; 2,025 companies; 424 investors; and 235 civil society organizations. One third of the 2,000 largest global companies committed to climate action at the LPAA, with a commitment value equivalent to the combined gross domestic product (GDP) of China, Germany and Japan, according to the UNFCCC.
