The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted an international meeting on the sustainable use of marine resources on 27 March 2007.

The meeting was attended by Japan’s Fisheries Agency and the UN and took place amid warnings that global fish stocks are on the verge of collapse, including commercially valuable species such as bluefin tuna, whose decline threatens supply to the world’s biggest sushi market.
