The UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the government of India recently signed a US$42 million agreement under the UNIDO Country Programme of Technical Cooperation in India 2008-2012.
The Country Programme, aimed at “strengthening the competitiveness and productivity of industrial enterprises,” focuses on eight key areas, including the induction of clean technologies, under a broad framework of “industry and climate change,” which aims at developing a clean-green industry, and measures to introduce energy efficiency and conservation. The five-year flagship programme was signed on behalf of Government of India by Shri Ajay Shankar, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (Ministry of Commerce and Industry), and Kandeh K.
