The International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) finalized and approved proposed amendments to the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) Annex VI regulations to reduce harmful emissions from ships, as well as to the NOx technical Code, when it met for its 57th session from 31 March-4 April 2008, in London, UK.

The draft amendments had been agreed by the IMO’s Sub-Committee on Bulk Liquids and Gases (BLG) at its 12th session in February, and are to be adopted at MEPC 58 (London, UK, 6-10 October 2008). In addition, the MEPC considered issues relating to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships.
