28 September 2009: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a report reviewing Spain’s current energy policies.

The in-depth report, titled “Energy Policies of IEA Countries: Spain,” lauds Spain’s efforts in recent years to reign in carbon emission growth by diversifying its energy mix and becoming a global leader in Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) development. With more than half of the nation’s electricity generation still being produced by fossil fuels, however, the report notes the significant challenges still ahead in moving to the low-carbon economy, which it indicates will be necessary for Spain to meet its energy security and climate change objectives.
