10 March 2010: Over 30 technology executives met under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on 10 March 2010, and adopted a statement on concrete action for the transition to a low-carbon economy.
In the statement, the IEA and the WBCSD agree to outline concrete steps towards realizing the shift to a low-carbon economy and disseminate knowledge on making this transition. The two bodies also commit to work with the wider business community on: the creation of technology roadmaps identifying priority actions and milestones through 2050; the illustration of technology financing by publishing private sector clean energy research and development data and identifying ways to enhance technology deployment financing; and the identification of barriers to technology diffusion by sharing best government practices and recommending actions to promote technology development. The possibility of creating an international low-carbon energy technology platform was also discussed during the roundtable. [The Statement]
