ICIWaRM Advisory Board Meeting Addresses Strategic Direction

A meeting of the advisory board of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM) discussed the centers strategic direction, particularly its accomplishments in the period 2009-2012 and its contributions to UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme (IHP).

21 December: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Center for Integrated Water Resources Management (ICIWaRM) held the inaugural session of it’s advisory board, which discussed ICIWaRM contributions to UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme (IHP).

The meeting convened from 4-5 December 2012, in Washington DC, US. Among agenda items were discussions of ICIWaRM achievements between 2009-2012, which include: supporting the basin development strategy and scenarios developed by the Mekong River Commission (MRC); developing the ICIWaRM Regional Analysis of Frequency Tool (ICI-RAFT) for analysis of precipitation; and participating in the Global Water Partnership (GWP).

Under the auspices of UNESCO, ICIWaRM was founded in 2007 with the objective of improving the science behind and practice of integrated water resources management (IWRM). The Center is hosted by the US Army Institute for Water Resources (IWR) and contributes to UNESCO’s IHP. [ICIWaRM Press Release]
