GWP Launches Enabling Delta Life at World Water Week

"Enabling Delta Life" was launched by the Global Water Partnership (GWP) to enhance water cooperation on deltas.

The launch event underscored that the world's deltas are under unprecedented pressure due to natural and anthropogenic causes, including population growth, land use change, climate change, sea level rise and land subsidence.

29 August 2012: The (GWP) has launched an initiative titled “Enabling Delta Life” to facilitate cooperation on delta governance, strengthen science-policy interfaces, develop a framework to feed into the GWP and Delta Alliance strategy, and develop a joint GWP – Delta Alliance agenda for the next project.

The launch event underscored that the world’s deltas are under unprecedented pressure due to natural and anthropogenic causes, including population growth, land use change, climate change, sea level rise and land subsidence. The launch, which took place at World Water Week 2012, in Stockholm, Sweden, identified integrated decision making including spatial planning, disaster management and risk reduction, as a means of addressing these challenges.
