GEF Reports on Collaboration with CTCN

The UNFCCC Secretariat has released an addendum to the report of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20).

The document (FCCC/CP/2014/2/Add.1) details the GEF's consultations with the Advisory Board of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and progress under the Poznan Strategic Programme on Technology Transfer.

ctcn-gef26 November 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released an addendum to the report of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20). The document (FCCC/CP/2014/2/Add.1) details the GEF’s consultations with the Advisory Board of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and progress under the Poznan Strategic Programme on Technology Transfer.

At the invitation of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI), the GEF reports its progress on the first item of its ‘Long-Term Program on Technology Transfer,’ which includes supporting the Climate Technology Centres and a Climate Technology Network. The report describes areas of collaboration identified as a result of consultations with the CTCN Advisory Board, as well as a workshop organized to bring together the Advisory Board chair, the Technology Executive Committee chair and vice-chair, and representatives from the regional development banks and the World Bank.

An annex to the report includes details the implementation of initiatives under the Programme, namely: Promoting Accelerated Transfer and Scaled-up Deployment of Mitigation Technologies through the CTCN; Pilot Asia-Pacific Climate Technology Network and Finance Center; Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC); Climate Technology Transfer Mechanisms and Networks in Latin America and the Caribbean; Pilot African Climate Technology Finance Center and Network; Enhancing Capacity, Knowledge and Technology Support to Build Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Developing Countries; Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment; and Mexico Sustainable Energy Technology Development.

The SBI will consider the findings in the GEF report at its 41st session in December 2014. The GEF is operating as a financial mechanism of the UNFCCC and was requested by a COP 17 decision to support the operationalization and activities of the CTCN.
