GCF Interim Secretariat Invites Parties to Nominate Board Members

The UNFCCC Secretariat and the GEF Secretariat indicate they are taking the necessary administrative steps to set up the interim secretariat of the GCF as an autonomous unit within the UNFCCC Secretariat premises.

This arrangement is to enable the interim secretariat to provide technical, administrative and logistical support to the Board until the independent secretariat of the GCF is established.

22 December 2011: The interim Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) has published a message to parties on the launch of the GCF. The notification contains two Annexes on the board of the GCF and on criteria for the selection of the host country. Parties are invited through their regional groups and constituencies to submit nominations for the position of member and alternate member of the Board of the GCF. Parties are also requested to submit to the Board by 15 April 2012, expressions of interest for hosting the GCF based on criteria contained in Annex II.

The note indicates that the UNFCCC Secretariat and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat are taking the necessary administrative steps to set up the interim secretariat of the GCF as an autonomous unit within the UNFCCC Secretariat’s premises. This arrangement is to enable the interim secretariat to provide technical, administrative and logistical support to the Board until the independent secretariat of the GCF is established. Parties are also invited to make financial contributions for the start-up of the GCF, including covering the administrative costs of the Board and its interim secretariat.
