The General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) held its 33rd session in Tunis, Tunisia, from 23-27 March 2009.

Delegates adopted a number of recommendations towards sustainable fisheries management and agreed to set up a GFCM fishing fleet register. Delegates also agreed on the use of at least 40 mm square mesh in trawl fisheries, to avoid accidental catches of small fish and other marine organisms.
