FARNET Magazine Focuses on Role of Fisheries in Local Development

The Autumn-Winter issue of Fisheries Areas Network (FARNET) Magazine focuses on the role of fisheries local action groups (FLAGs) in building sustainable and inclusive fisheries communities.

12 December 2012: The Autumn-Winter issue of the Fisheries Areas Network (FARNET) Magazine features articles on the role of fisheries communities in local development, including one about fisheries local action groups (FLAGs).

Reporting on a series of 15 in-depth fisheries case studies, the opening article describes how FLAGs are working with diverse organizations to sustainable and inclusive fisheries communities. The article explores how FLAGs can address certain challenges related to major fisheries, and how FLAGs can contribute to wider territorial development through local community engagement.

This FARNET issue also features: progress reports from fisheries across the EU, including the UK and Italy; an interview with Struan Stevensen, Senior Vice President of the European Parliament’s Fisheries Committee; an article on the structure and functioning of the Lesvos FLAG (Greece); a feature on four innovative development projects in fisheries areas; an article summarizing the effectiveness of delivery systems for local development support in fisheries; and more.
