The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recently met with industry representatives to discuss emerging issues affecting the seafood business.

The focus of this 12 February 2008 roundtable forum in Bremen, Germany, was to exchange information on energy use in the fisheries sector throughout various stages of the value chain, and to assess efforts made to improve the industry’s efficiency in light of growing concerns over carbon emissions. The outcomes of this meeting will feed into a high level conference on climate change and food security to be held at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, in June 2008.
