16 September 2015: The Eye on Earth partnership has received 120 project proposals ahead of its Abu Dhabi summit, taking place from 6-8 October 2015. The partnership highlighted that all of the projects seek to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including action on sustainable cities, climate change, land degradation and oceans.
Eye on Earth is a global partnership to improve the availability and use of environmental data for decision-making. Eye on Earth supports ‘Special Initiatives’ that include promoting equal access to data and information, supporting community resilience, and addressing water security, among other aims.
In a press release, the partnership reports that project submissions have increased in quality and number, and include proposals for a data archive on carbon storage and emissions from coastal ecosystems, and information infrastructure for emergency management and disaster risk reduction (DRR).
Some of the project submissions will be presented at the forthcoming Eye on Earth summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The summit will bring together around 650 delegates from government, UN organizations, NGOs, the private sector and academia.
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Resources Institute (WRI) are partners in Eye on Earth.
