16 February 2011: The European Commission has launched a new three-year project, called OURCOAST, to support and ensure the exchange of experiences and best practices in coastal planning and management, focusing on climate change adaptation, land management and sustainable economic growth.

The project website allows searching for case studies grouped into three policy objectives: adaptation to risk (managing impacts of climate change and safeguarding resilience of coastal systems, preventing and managing natural hazards and related technologies, and integrated risk-dimension into planning and investment); sustainable use of resources (preserving the coastal environment and promoting less resource-intensive processes); and sustainable economic growth (developing Europe’s regional seas sustainability, balancing economic, social and cultural development while enhancing the environment, and improving competitiveness).
