RIO+20March 2013: The third issue of the Sustainable Development in Action newsletter features updates on the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in 2014 and the High-level Political Forum on sustainable development (HLPF).

On the SIDS conference, the newsletter highlights a new website launched by the Conference Secretariat. It also notes that SIDS leaders aim to make partnerships a cornerstone of the conference, and that a “SIDS in Action” registry has been launched, where stakeholders can register partnerships and commitments for the advancement of SIDS and the Conference.

On the HLPF, the newsletter reports that Major Groups representatives met with the co-facilitators of the ongoing negotiations on the Forum. They presented a working paper on the HLPF’s institutional format, emphasizing that it should build upon the successes of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), particularly in regards to access, participation and engagement by civil society organizations.

The newsletter is published by the UN Division for Sustainable Development (DSD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). [Publication: Sustainable Development in Action, Volume 1, Issue 3] [SIDS 2014 Conference Website] [SIDS in Action Registry]
