First Meeting of Steering Committee on Partnerships for SIDS

The first meeting of the Steering Committee on Partnerships for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) is expected to discuss the working methods of the Committee. The meeting is held pursuant to UN General Assembly resolution 70/202 on 'Follow-up to and implementation of the SIDS Accelerated Modalities of Action (SAMOA) Pathway and the Mauritius Strategy for the Further Implementation of the Programme of Action for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States,' which decided to establish the SIDS Partnership Framework, to monitor and ensure the full implementation of pledges and commitments through partnerships for SIDS. The Steering Committee is expected to support the follow-up of existing partnerships, and promote and advocate the launching of new SIDS partnerships. Maldives and Italy serve as co-chairs of the Committee.
