DOALOS Releases UNSG Report on Oceans and the Law of the Sea

The report of the UN Secretary-General includes sections on: conservation and management of marine living resources, marine biological diversity, protection and preservation of the marine environment and sustainable development, and climate change and oceans.

8 November 2010: The UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) has released the report of the UN Secretary-General (UNSG) on oceans and the law of the sea (Document A/65/69 Add.2).

The report includes sections on: the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and its implementing agreements, marine science and technology, conservation and management of marine living resources, marine biological diversity, protection and preservation of the marine environment and sustainable development, and climate change and oceans.

The Secretary-General issued the report on 31 August. It was prepared in response to a request from the UN General Assembly (Resolution 64/71), and it was submitted both to members of the General Assembly and to States parties to UNCLOS. [The Report]
