limacop2014 December 2014: The Presidency of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC has endorsed the Lima Adaptation Knowledge Initiative, announced by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and UNFCCC Secretariat at the Lima Climate Change Conference.

The Initiative is a pilot project in the Andes being carried out under the Nairobi Work Programme (NWP) on impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change. The project aims to understand the climate change adaptation needs of communities and, subsequently, prioritize and catalyze responses based on the specific sub-region and thematic adaptation knowledge needs.

UNEP and the UNFCCC Secretariat are collaborating on the Initiative as a component of their efforts to address climate change adaptation needs. NWP’s objective is to assist parties in improving their knowledge and understanding of climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation in order to make informed decisions on adaptation measures.
