The Codex Alimentarius Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Foods Derived from Biotechnology met from 24-28 September 2007, in Chiba, Japan.

Participants approved three sets of guidelines for the conduct of food safety assessments and forwarded them for adoption by the Codex Alimentarius Commission. The guidelines aim to assist countries in assessing the risk of imported food containing low levels of non-approved genetically modified (GM) plant material; foods derived from GM animals; and foods derived from plants modified for nutritional or health benefits.
