CMS/ACCOBAMS MEETING ON MARINE ENVIRONMENT HELD

The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) together with its Agreement on the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea and contiguous Atlantic Area (ACCOBAMS) facilitated the International Summit on the Marine Environment, which convened from 9-11 December 2008, in Heraklion, Greece.

Part of the Year of the Dolphin, participants agreed on first steps for urgent measures to stop the further degradation of marine ecosystems caused by overfishing in Greek waters. Draft recommendations will be submitted to the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs for implementation.
