The April issue of IOSEA E-News highlights a number of headline news stories from across the region, and a pledge of GBP10,000 from the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs.
IOSEA is the Indian Ocean-South-East Asian Turtle Memorandum of Understanding under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals.
April 2011: The Secretariat of the Indian Ocean-South-East Asian Turtle Memorandum of Understanding (IOSEA) under the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) has published its April e-Newsletter.
The newsletter, which rounds up news of relevance to IOSEA, notes that while there were no relevant feature articles in March, headline news stories from across the region included: an update on marine turtle conservation activities in the Islamic Republic of Iran; many stories from India focusing on the seasonal mass nesting of olive ridley turtles, as well as on important contributions to conservation made by small community groups; a number of articles noting the serious and growing problem of marine debris; the threat of the imminent demise of Thailand’s Andaman Sea leatherback population; Kenya’s national sea turtle conservation strategy; and the incredible 12,000 kilometer journey of an olive ridley turtle whose movements around the Bay of Bengal have been tracked for over a year.
Also noted is the voluntary pledge from the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) of GBP10,000 to IOSEA. [Publication: IOSEA e-News, April 2011]
