27 August 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), ClimateWorks Foundation, the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (IGSD), the International Cryosphere Climate Initiative (ICCI), and the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) have joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC).

The Coalition aims to catalyze major reductions in black carbon (or soot), methane and some hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). The five current initiatives of the Coalition include: addressing methane emissions from municipal waste; emissions from brick kilns; promoting alternatives to HFCs; and emissions from the oil and gas industry.

The new partners join: the Coalition’s founding members, namely Bangladesh, Canada, Ghana, Mexico, Sweden, the US and UNEP; as well as Colombia, Japan, Nigeria, Norway, the European Commission and the World Bank, who joined the Coalition in April 2012. Germany, France, Italy, the Russian Federation and the UK joined the coalition in May 2012. Denmark, Finland, Jordan and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) joined the partnership in July 2012.
