CIFOR Reports on Activities in Indonesia

Building on years of close collaboration, the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) released a report on partnerships with its host country, Indonesia.

The partnership recognizes the significant high-level commitment to the sustainable management of forests in Indonesia, which boasts the largest bamboo forest in South-east Asia, half of the world's tropical peatlands, and 80% of the global supply of rattan.

CIFORNovember 2014: Building on years of close collaboration, the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) released a report on partnerships with its host country, Indonesia. The partnership recognizes the significant high-level commitment to the sustainable management of forests in Indonesia, which boasts the largest bamboo forest in South-east Asia, half of the world’s tropical peatlands, and 80% of the global supply of rattan.

The report notes that 48% of CIFOR staff is from Indonesia, while 29% of the CIFOR portfolio is dedicated to the country, amounting to about US$73.5 million in research investments. The report elaborates on the nineteen CIFOR projects currently being carried out in Indonesia, on topics ranging from the haze crisis, to improving sustainable forest management (SFM) and REDD+.

The report also cites the importance of Indonesia in addressing land based greenhouse gas emissions and in providing good practices and expertise in peatland and mangrove management. Finally, the report summarizes CIFOR publications and outreach efforts in Indonesia, noting that CIFOR has produced 919 publications on Indonesia that collectively account for more than 6.5 million downloads.
