CBD Executive Secretary Selection Underway

Following the November 2011 application deadline, interviews of selected candidates for the position of Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) are underway.

CBD6 January 2011: The UN Secretariat is considering selected candidates for the position of Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), following the 20 November 2011 deadline for applications.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the CBD’s host institution, announced a call for candidates in October 2011. The position is at the level of Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and based in Montreal, Canada.

According to the vacancy announcement, criteria for the position include: extensive experience and knowledge of the environmental and sustainable development agenda; strong leadership and managerial skills along with highly developed diplomatic and public policy skills, including experience at the international level; and a strong track record in organizational strategy and development, including results-based management.
