18 February 2013: Bioversity International released a series of training materials on forest genetic resources aimed at increasing knowledge among non-specialists.

The training guide currently contains modules on species conservation strategies, trees outside of forests, seed supply chains, forest management and the scale of adaptation, and will soon include modules on plantation forestry, tree domestication, forest restoration and genetic modification.

The guide is intended to provide material for tertiary education teachers, on-the-job training courses and forestry practitioners in order to expand knowledge on the importance of forest genetic resources in support of the sustainable management of forests and trees. Tools contained in the guide include case studies, audio-visual materials, teacher’s notes, resource materials and exercises.

Bioversity International is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [Bioversity International Press Release] [Publication: Training Guide on Forest Genetic Resources]
