Bioversity InternationalDecember 2014: Bioversity International has released the 2014-2016 Strategy for the Asia Pacific Forest Genetic Resources Programme (APFORGEN), which focuses on regional collaboration and support for the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources in the Asia and the Pacific Region.

The Strategy outlines three objectives for regional collaboration: mobilizing political and financial support for implementing the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Global Plan of Action on Forest Genetic Resources in Asia and the Pacific; developing strategies for conservation and sustainable use of regionally important tree species; and strengthening tree seed programmes to facilitate ecosystem restoration, support local livelihoods and to address climate change adaptation and mitigation.

APFORGEN is a regional programme and network supported by Bioversity International and the Asia Pacific Association of Forestry Research Institutions (APAFRI). Its main objectives are to promote the management of tropical forest genetic resources in its 14 member countries through enhancing technical and scientific cooperation, training and information exchange and technical support to national forest programmes and research institutions. Bioversity International is a member of the CGIAR Consortium. [Publication: APFORGEN Strategy for Regional Collaboration 2014-2016] [Bioversity International News Release][APFORGEN Brochure]
