16 July 2010: The Basel Convention Secretariat convened a workshop on Ship Recycling Technology and Knowledge Transfer in Izmir, Turkey, from 14-16 July 2010. A key outcome of the workshop was progress in strengthening the understanding of the Convention’s role in the international regulatory regime of ship recycling.
The workshop focused on the situation in Pakistan. The Pakistani delegation attending the workshop included representatives of both Government and industry, seeking to learn from the improvements made in the ship-recycling industry in Turkey in order to enable them to implement the practical, regulatory and institutional changes in Pakistan.
