The 15th Ordinary Meeting of the Contracting Parties to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Region of the Mediterranean (Barcelona Convention) and its Protocols took place in Almeria, Spain, from 15-18 January 2008.

Jointly organized by the UN Environment Programme/ Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) and the Spanish Ministry of the Environment, the Meeting brought together ministers and senior officials responsible for the environment and development in 21 Mediterranean countries and the European Community. A ministerial session was held on 16 and 17 January to discuss the challenge of climate change in the Mediterranean. Participants also adopted a series of decisions, including the new Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) and adopted the Almeria Ministerial Declaration setting up the MAP future initiatives in the field of climate change.
