UNFCCC10 December 2015: The Adaptation Committee has released a video documentary ‘Adapting to a changing climate’ which introduces viewers to climate change adaptation and highlights examples of adaptation action. The 20-minute video, which was released at Lima Climate Change Conference, features Adaptation Committee Co-Chairs Juan Hoffmaister and Christina Chan and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres. In the video, Figueres states that adaptation is the “invitation that we are being given” to change behaviors and consumption and production patterns that have been the practice for the past 100 to 150 years, but that are no longer sustainable.

The video documentary includes highlights of the 2013 Adaptation Forum in Warsaw, Poland, including remarks by Tumusiime Rhoda Peace, Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, African Union (AU); Mary Robinson, UN Special Envoy for Climate Change; Nicholas Stern, London School of Economics; and Bianca Jagger, Chair, Bianca Jagger Foundation.

The documentary also showcases two projects featured by the UNFCCC’s Momentum for Change initiative and one project by the Government of the Netherlands.

To reach a wider audience, the video will be subtitled in nine languages, including the six UN languages, as well as Portugese, Bengali and Hindu. These versions will be released in 2015 and distributed globally.

The UNFCCC produced the documentary on behalf of the Adaptation Committee. The Adaptation Committee, the UNFCCC advisory body responsible for promoting adaptation action, was established in 2010 under the Cancun Adaptation Framework. [UNFCCC Press Release] [Link to video documentary]
