This event is co-organized by the state of Rio de Janeiro, the Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD), The Climate Group and Regions-United/FOGAR. It aims to provide a platform for subnational governments (federated states, regions, provinces and other intermediate governments) to demonstrate their contributions to sustainable development “on the ground” in partnership with other levels of government and the private sector. The World Summit will launch a global coalition and adopt a declaration of commitments from subnational governments, both on the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication at subnational level. The outcomes of the Summit are intended to feed into the discussions during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
