Third International Meeting on the Establishment of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation

Australia, Chile and New Zealand have recently initiated a process for States to cooperate in addressing gaps in the international conservation and management framework through the establishment of a new regional fisheries management organisation (RFMO). The first international meeting on the establishment of the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation took place from 14-17 February 2006. The second international meeting took place in Hobart, Australia from 6-10 November 2006. This third meeting is aimed at the establishment of an RFMO that would manage straddling and high seas stocks of fishery species not covered by the WCPFC, in the South Pacific.
