4-5 March 2024 New York City, US
SIDS Future Forum

The SIDS Future Forum will bring together policymakers, development partners, academics, and researchers to shape the next ten-year agenda for small island developing State (SIDS). The event will take place in advance of the Fourth International Conference on SIDS (SIDS4), which will convene under the theme ‘Charting the Course Toward Resilient Prosperity’.

ODI, Resilient and Sustainable Islands Initiative, the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), UK Aid Direct, the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS), the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), and the Island Innovation team will co-host this event.

The event will feature five thematic sessions:

  • Revitalizing economies: New strategies for diversification and growth;
  • Transformative action for climate resilience and environmental protection;
  • Forging a path to empowerment, equity, inclusion, peaceful societies, and safe communities;
  • Strengthening institutional and statistical capacity; and
  • Means of implementation and enabling environment.

The event will feature a one-day, in-person event for SIDS missions and development partners, livestreamed for global participation, and a virtual, invitation-only event for SIDS civil society. The event offers participants an opportunity to look back at lessons learned from Barbados, Mauritius, and Samoa, and to look forward towards what SIDS want from the next programme of action.
