Second Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM2)

The Second Clean Energy Ministerial is an initiative of the Major Economies Forum (MEF), which was established in early 2009 to facilitate a positive outcome of climate change negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. Ministers of the MEF will discuss initiatives that were developed as a result of the first Clean Energy Ministerial, which met in July 2010 in Washington, DC, US. These initiatives sought to eliminate the need to build more than 500 mid-sized power plants, begin smart grid deployment, deploy 20 million electric vehicles by 2020 and bring solar lanterns or other improved energy services to more than 10 million people without access to grid electricity by 2015. Governments participating in Clean Energy Ministerial initiatives include Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Norway, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
