2 May 2024 Beirut, Beyrouth, Lebanon
Lebanon Blue Economy Dialogue 2024

Lebanon’s first National Blue Economy Conference will showcase the findings of the country’s national blue economy assessment and present policy recommendations, with a focus on fisheries, coastal tourism, and port activities. The event aims to serve as a step towards a more circular, environmentally resilient, and prosperous blue economy in Lebanon.

Lebanon’s extensive Mediterranean coastline offers opportunities for sustainable blue growth. At the same time, the country’s coastal and marine environment is facing threats from the biodiversity, climate, and pollution crises. Consequently, efforts to maintain the integrity and health of coastal and marine ecosystems are critical.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) will organize the dialogue in partnership with the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development, under the patronage of the Lebanese Ministry of Environment. The EU will provide funding for the event, within the scope of its SwitchMed II project. SwitchMed II integrates a blue economy component and aims to promote economic growth, social inclusion, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental sustainability through a circular economy lens.

The event will bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors, including academia and civil society, and will feature both political and technical topics. The conference will also showcase local actions from coastal cities in Lebanon, including the city of Saida.
