This side event will be held during the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and is being organized by OceanCare together with several partners. It will focus on key issues relating to the high seas, including fisheries management and governance, marine protected areas on the high seas, through presentations on specific initiatives to identify and protect unique and significant areas, and environmental impact assessments. The event is being held under the High Seas Alliance, which was launched in 2011 to present a united voice for the protection of the high seas.
