Global Expert Group Meeting on SDG 7

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and UN Energy will convene a Global Expert Group Meeting in preparation for the SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) review at the 2023 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). The meeting will bring together experts from the UN system, governments, civil society, academia, and the private sector to discuss progress and challenges related to SDG 7.

The meeting will:

  • consider inputs from regional, thematic, and multi-stakeholder consultations;
  • share lessons learned, including on synergies with other SDGs; and
  • identify opportunities for action.

The meeting will result in a consolidated summary note that will inform the background note for the review of SDG 7 at HLPF 2023. In addition to SDG 7, the 2023 HLPF will hold in-depth reviews of four other SDGs: 6 (clean water and sanitation); 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure); 11 (sustainable cities and communities); and 17 (partnerships for the Goals). The HLPF, including this year’s review of SDG 7, will inform the SDG Summit in September.
