This meeting is expected to discuss the technical support needed to develop and carry out the Challenge roadmap and action plan, consisting of a 20-year vision including regional and country level goals, objectives and targets. The Western Indian Ocean Coastal Challenge (WIO-CC) aims to mobilize countries to come together and commit to island conservation and sustainable livelihoods, including by responding to the threat posed by climate change over the next 20 years. Focused on marine and coastal zones, the Challenge is set to build on efforts of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) and the Nairobi Convention.
