The theme of the 2020 session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is: Accelerated action and transformative pathways: realizing the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development. 

The High-level Segment (HLS) convenes annually. It represents the culmination of ECOSOC's annual cycle of work and convenes a diverse group of high-level representatives from Government, the private sector, civil society and academia. 

The 2020 High-level Segment of ECOSOC will include the three-day ministerial meeting in conjunction with the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), from 14-16 July, and a one-day ECOSOC HLS, on 17 July 2020. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the general debate of the 2020 High-level Political Forum/ High-level Segment of ECOSOC will be conducted through written statements from Ministers and other representatives of Member States, UN system organizations, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and other international and regional organizations, as well as the Major Groups and other stakeholders.
