High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2020

The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the main UN platform on sustainable development. It has a central role in the follow-up and review of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level. All UN Member States as well as representatives from civil society organizations participate in its meetings. The Forum adopts intergovernmentally negotiated political declarations at the conclusion of its eight-day session.

The HLPF meets under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) annually. In 2020, ECOSOC will convene the 2020 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development from Tuesday, 7 July, to Thursday, 16 July 2020.

Following the first five-days, the HLPF's three-day ministerial segment will take place jointly with ECOSOC's high-level segment, from Tuesday-Thursday, 14-16 July 2020. The ECOSOC high-level segment concludes on 17 July 2020.

The HLPF programme has been revised due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The HLPF is taking place virtually, and several thematic discussions on the building back better after the pandemic have been added to the schedule. As of 2 June 2020, 47 countries intend to participate in the VNRs in 2020. Summaries of the 47 presentations can be found here.

In addition to the HLPF, nine special events will take place as will a full schedule of virtual side events
