2016 Potsdam Ocean Governance High Level Event and Workshop

This invitation-only event will bring together experts and representatives from governments, international organizations, scientific institutions, civil society and business to discuss ' Sustainable Development Goals for the Ocean: Turning Commitment into Action'. On 11 May 2016. the High-Level Event will take place, and on 12-13 May 2016, the Workshop will take place. Among other issues, the workshop will focus on: a follow-up and review framework to monitor ocean-related issues in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; strategies for capacity building at different scales; and regional approaches. The workshop is hosted by the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies e.V. (IASS, Potsdam) in collaboration with the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI, Paris), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Kiel Cluster of Excellence 'The Future Ocean'. The ocean and coasts are addressed in a dedicated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 14) and have strong links with other goals, including poverty eradication (SDG 1), food security (SDG 2), sustainable energy (SDG 7), growth and employment (SDG 8) and ecosystems and biodiversity (SDG 15).
