The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and partners will hold this multi-stakeholder event to foster debate and develop specific policy options and novel ideas to feed into the processes of two upcoming intergovernmental Conferences: the High-level UN Ocean Conference (New York, June 2017); and the 11th World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference (Buenos Aires, December 2017). The briefing aims to provide clarity on the main obligations and functioning of the multilateral legal framework applicable to fisheries and the development of the process leading to the 2017 UN Ocean Conference. This event is the result of a request made by participants during a previous briefing on the Ocean Conference held on 16 January 2017. The Briefing will be attended by Member States of UNCTAD, specialized agencies and other intergovernmental bodies. Registration for civil society organizations is open until 16 March.
