February 2013: The GRID-Arendal Marine Programme, a center collaborating with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), has released the February issue of its newsletter (Marine Newsletter #2), featuring articles on the Pacific Marine Planning Decision Support Tool and on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) for Oceans and Coasts Knowledge Portal.

The newsletter indicates that the Pacific Marine Planning Decision Support Tool will collate information about the limits of maritime jurisdictions, living and non-living marine resources and the environment, which GRID-Arendal says underpins the sustainable management of the marine space of Pacific Island Nations. The newsletter highlights that the Tool will build on the marine data holdings and regional engagement provided by the Applied GeoScience and Technology Division (SOPAC) of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC). The project is funded by the Australian Government through the Australian Agency for International Development (AUSAID), and will be completed by June 2014.

The newsletter also features an article on the TEEB for Oceans and Coasts Knowledge Portal, which seeks to identify and fill key knowledge gaps and facilitate enabling conditions to enhance sound decision making at all levels of society.
